Old roots. Smart growing.
PROCESS
Long Crop Rotation:
Rotation is the heart of how we farm. Some of our ground goes seven to ten years between potato crops, cycling through wheat and barley in between. That rest keeps disease down, cuts the inputs we need, and leaves the soil richer for the next crop. What our potato ground gives back, our grain crops get to use.

POTATOES...
...are our specialty: a premium, quality-focused crop that stays bright and fresh after cutting and resists bruising. Our malt barley heads to the maltsters and, eventually, your glass. Our soft white wheat becomes the crackers, cookies, and everyday staples on the shelf. Each one has its place in the rotation that keeps our soil strong.

From Roy to Taber
At Benson Farms, growing better food and caring for the land are the same discipline. We rotate our fields on a long cycle, test our soil and our plants so we give them only what they need. Our cutting-edge Acclimate potato varieties take fewer inputs, resist browning, and deliver the consistent quality our partners count on. Alongside our potatoes, we raise malt barley and soft white wheat across 3,000 acres on Idaho's Snake River Plain. Innovation and stewardship aren't competing goals here; they're proof that the best farmers care deeply for the ground while producing higher-quality food.

That commitment runs four generations deep. Our story started when our great-grandfather spotted the aquifer running beneath the sagebrush up on the Snake River Plain and saw opportunity. In 1948 the family broke this ground out of the sagebrush by hand. We're still on that same soil today, and still a small outfit by design. None of what we do is new to us; it's simply how our family keeps a farm healthy enough to hand down. At the end of the day, this work matters for a simple reason: we love watching things grow, and we intend to leave this ground in better shape for the generation coming up next.
